My Family Dollar Shopping Trip 7-15-11

I had to run a few errands this morning, so I decided to run by my local Family Dollar to check out some deals. I'll admit - I don't usually shop at Family Dollar and have never used coupons there. Another confession - it took about 15 minutes for me to check out. Not a great experience with two kids! I managed to get some great deals, and I'll tell you more about my coupon experience in a few minutes. Here's what I bought:

1 Keri Lotion (reg. price $3.00)
2 Cover Girl Tweezers (reg. price $1.00 each)
2 Cover Girl Toe Separators (reg. price $1.00 each)
1 Cover Girl Cuticle Remover (reg. price $1.00)
2 Cover Girl Nail Clippers (reg. price $1.00 each)
1 Cover Girl Nail File (reg. price $1.00 each)
1 Cover Girl Pumice Stone (reg. price $1.50 each)
1 Cover Girl Salon Emery Boards (reg. price $1.50)

Total retail price - $14.00

I used the following coupons:

(1) $2.00 off any Keri Lotion (SS Insert, 4/17)
(6) $1.00 off any Cover Girl Product (P&G Insert, 6/5 and 7/3)
(2) $2.50 off any two Cover Girl Products (P&G Insert, 7/3)

Total after coupons - $1.00 + tax

When I went to check out, the cashier (actually, the Assistant Manager) scanned all my items, then scanned my first coupon. It beeped when she scanned it, so she glanced at it and handed it back to me, saying "You didn't purchase this". I politely told her that yes, I did - that the coupon was for $1.00 off any Cover Girl PRODUCT, not any Cover Girl COSMETIC (she didn't read the coupon, just looked at the picture). She back-tracked and said it beeped because it was a Manufacturer's Coupon, not a Family Dollar coupon (huh? That makes no sense). Anyway, she ended up having to manually put in each coupon and match it up with each product. At the end, she did the $2.00 off Kari Lotion coupon, but input it for $2.50 instead of $2.00. I pointed that out to her, but she was so frustrated at this point that she didn't bother changing it. So I actually scored all of the above products for $0.50 + tax!
